I got clean on 9/29/12 after almost 20 years of active addiction. At age 12, I tried drugs and alcohol for the first time, and I was off to the races from there. Through that 20-year addiction I lost relationships, jobs, tried geographical changes, and spent jail time in every county I lived in. Finally, in September of 2012, I had enough, I hit my bottom and was ready to stop digging my grave. So I went to rehab and found 12-step recovery. Through that recovery, I got a sponsor and a solid network of brothers that I could trust and depend on. AND that’s when I found motorcycles…. The freedom that came to me from riding is indescribable. Those brothers and I started a riding club, based in recovery with a goal to give back.

So, we are the Recovery Road Riders RC, and our mission is to provide a clean and sober environment where motorcycle enthusiasts can come together to ride and to give back to a society in which, for so long, we took away from. We are bikers in long term recovery, who enjoy the true freedom achieved from being in recovery, and riding motorcycles.We created the Recovery Road scholarship to support students from our region (Northern Michigan) who have a parent who has lost their battle with addiction. (Note: “losing the battle” can mean Incarceration, Institution, or Death and “addiction” can be any addiction- not just drug addiction). We want to support secondary education for young adults, so they have a better chance to break the cycle of addiction impacting our area.
